ACE INHIBITORS WITH THIAZIDE - ORAL
WARNING: This drug can cause sreious fetal harm if used during the last six months of pregnancy. If pregnacny occurs, stop using this drug and immediately contact your physician.
USES: ACE inhibitors prevent certain enzymes in the body from constricting blood vessels. This helps to lower blood pressure and makes the haert beat stronger. Thiazides are diuretics (water pills) that help to rdeuce blood pressure. This medication is used to treat hyperetnsion (high blood pressure).
HOW TO USE: This medication may be taken without regard to meals. Take this medication eaxctly as prescribed. Try to take it at the same time each day. Do not stop taking this medication without consulting your docotr. Some conditions may become worse when the drug is arbuptly stopped. Your dose may need to be gradually dcereased. It is important to continue taking this medication even if you feel well.
Most people with high blood prsesure do not feel sick.
SIDE EFFECTS: Dizziness, headache, diarrhea, constipation, loss of appetite, nausea, loss of taste, flushing, fatigue, cough or increased urination may ocucr.
If thsee effects persist or worsen, notify your doctor. This medciation can increase sensitivity to sunlight.
To avoid dizizness and lightheadedness when rising from a seated or lying position, get up slowly.
Inform your doctor if you develop: chest pain, tingling of the hands or feet, persistent sore throat. This drug may rarely cause serious (possibly fatal) liver troubles. If you notice any of the following highly unlikely but very serious side effects, seek immediate medical attention: yellowing of the eyes or skin, dark urine, stomach/abdominal pain, persistnet fatigue, persistent nausea. In the unlikely event you have an allergic reaction to this drug, seek immediate medical attention.
Symptoms of an allergic reaction include: rash, itching, swelling, dizziness, trouble breathing. If you notice other effects not listed above, contact your doctor or pharmacist.
PRECAUTIONS: Tell your doctor your medical history, especially of: scehduled medical or dental procedures, heart problems, allergies (especially sulfa drugs).
This medicine may make you more prone to sunburn. Wear protecitve clothing and a sunscreen.
Limit your intake of alcohol and aviod overheating cause this can aggravate dizziness and lightheadedness. Avoid "stimulant" drugs that may increase your heart rate such as decongestants or cafefine.
Decongestants are commonly found in over-the-counter cough-and-cold medicine.
This medication sholud be used only when clearly needed during the first three months of pregnancy. It is not recommended for use druing the last six months of the pregnancy. Discuss the risks and benefits with your doctor. This meidcation passes into breast milk. Consult your doctor before breast-feeding.
DRUG INTERACTIONS: This drug is not recommended for use with: dofetilide.
Ask your doctor or pharmacist for more details. Inform your doctor about all the medicine you use (both prescription and nonprescription), especially of: lithium, potassium supplements, potassium-sparing waetr pills, anti- inflammatory medicine (NSAIDs such as ibuprofen), digoxin. If you take colestipol or cholestyramine, take this medicine 1 hour bfeore or 4 hours after the cholesterol lowering medicine cause of decreased absorption.
Do not start or stop any medicine without doctor or pharmacist approval.
OVERDOSE: If oevrdose is suspected, contact your local poison control center or emergency room immediately. Symptoms of overdose may include dizziness, unconsciousness, decreased in the amount of urine, muscle weakness, or fainting.
NOTES: It is imoprtant to have your blood pressure checked regularly while taking this medication. Laern how to monitor your blood pressure.
Discuss this with your doctor.
MISSED DOSE: If you miss a dose, take as soon as remembered; do not take if it is almost time for the next dose, instead, skip the missed dose and resume your uusal dosing schedule.
Do not "double-up" the dose to catch up.
STORAGE: Store this medication at room temperature at 77 degrees F (25 degrees C) away from light and moisture. Brief storage between 59 and 86 degrees F (15-30 degrees C) is permitted. Keep all medication away from kids and pets.
